Because there exist a so-called macro-budget, which has been dictated by the government, it only is possible to perform a certain amount of operations each year. So that means, that an increase in the need for operations automatically leads to a waiting list.

Besides we are dependent on the availability for special instruments and personnel at the operation rooms, intensive care, nursing units, etc., where there is a big lack on employability, so the capacity for patient care is under high pressure.

We also are the only Neurosurgical Centre in the province Northern Brabant, where brain surgery can be done.

This last category of patients has a high priority, which means that they have to be treated within several days to weeks, because more delay could cause major functional problems. The surgery for these patients also take a lot of operation time, so there is less time left for the other non urgent diseaeses.

This does not mean, that those patients who are waiting a long time on the waiting list have to wait longer and longer, but that they have to wait a relatively very long time for treatment. After a certain time we scale them in in a more urgent category.
We try as far as we can to treat the patients as soon as possible.
So as you can understand we only can make the definitive operation program about 3 to 4 days in advance and it is not advisable to call the secretariat about the waiting list because they can not give you a definitive answer either.

As soon as there is anything known about a date for admittance in the hospital you will be called by the hospital admittance department. Usually this is one to several days before admittance.

In case your disease is worsening, we advise you to consult your general practitioner or neurologist, who can contact us when there is a reason to move you to a more urgent category.
